WILMINGTON, Delaware (September 14, 2012) – Donald A. Bussard, a director of Richards, Layton & Finger, and R. Franklin Balotti, a recently retired director of the firm, have been named 2013 Wilmington, Delaware Lawyers of the Year. The Best Lawyers in America identifies the country’s top lawyers—naming more Richards Layton attorneys this year than from any other Delaware firm—and then selects the single highest-ranked lawyer from its list in each specialty in each metropolitan area as the Lawyer of the Year. Best Lawyers designated Bussard the Corporate Governance Law Lawyer of the Year and Balotti the Corporate Law Lawyer of the Year.

Bussard, head of Richards Layton’s corporate advisory group, focuses his practice on advising corporations, boards of directors and board committees in connection with mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, stock issuances, stockholders’ meetings and relations, and corporate governance matters. In addition to his recognition in Best Lawyers, Bussard has been honored in Chambers USA, Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, Who’s Who Legal, Super Lawyers, and as a Delaware Today “Top Lawyer.”

Balotti appeared in and argued many of the leading cases defining the duties of corporate directors under Delaware law. Formerly an adjunct professor of law and a frequent speaker, Balotti co-authored The Delaware Law of Corporations and Business Organizations and Meetings of Stockholders, a leading treatise on Delaware corporate law.
