Frederick L. Cottrell III focuses on various areas of litigation with an emphasis on intellectual property, antitrust, products liability and commercial law. Vice chair of Richards Layton's Litigation Department and head of the firm's IP Group, Fred represents parties in significant patent litigation before the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

A frequent speaker on Delaware District Court practice and intellectual property law in Delaware, Fred has spoken at numerous seminars in his fields of practice, including at the Federal Circuit Bar Association on the use of injunctions in patent cases and at the ABA spring meeting on judicially assisted ADR. In addition, he has been a regular speaker at the Delaware State Bar Association’s civil litigation seminar on District Court practice. Fred also serves on various bar committees in his fields of practice.
