WILMINGTON, Delaware – Richards, Layton & Finger attorney Doneene Keemer Damon is being honored by YWCA Delaware at its fourth annual Evening of Style. The event, to be held on Saturday, February 28 at the Hotel du Pont, celebrates extraordinary women in the community who exemplify power, style and brilliance and inspire other women to embrace their own potential. Damon is one of six women who will be honored at the Evening of Style for exemplifying the YWCA’s mission of empowering women and eliminating racism.
Damon is the recipient of this year’s Trailblazer Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to her profession and her pioneering work for the advancement of women. Damon is a director in Richards Layton’s Business Department, where she focuses primarily on formation and operational issues relating to Delaware statutory trusts in all types of commercial and business transactions. Damon was the first African-American partner in a major Delaware law firm, breaking new ground for women to lead and excel in the legal profession.
Damon serves on many committees and holds several leadership positions in the state and national bar, including chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Trust Indentures and Indenture Trustees. A committed advocate for diversity, she is also a member of the American Bar Association’s Diversity Committee and the Development Committee for its DirectWomen Initiative, and the Multicultural Judges and Lawyers Section of the Delaware State Bar Association.
Active in the community as well, Damon serves on the boards of the Christiana Care Health System, Meals on Wheels Delaware, Inc., Wilmington Friends School, the Delaware Art Museum, and others. She received a JD, cum laude, from Temple University School of Law and a BS, cum laude, from St. Joseph’s University.
