WILMINGTON, Delaware (June 7, 2012) – Richards, Layton & Finger attorney Mark Purpura received the Delaware State Bar Association’s President’s Award in recognition of his advocacy for justice and equality for all Delawareans. Purpura and fellow Wilmington attorney Lisa Goodman were given this special award for their work on behalf of Equality Delaware. The President’s Award was presented on June 6 by DSBA President James G. McGiffin Jr. at this year’s Bench and Bar Conference, held at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Delaware.

“It is a tremendous honor for Equality Delaware’s work to be recognized by our peers in the legal community, and particularly by Jim McGiffin, who has dedicated his career to helping those in need,” says Purpura. “My experiences with the great team of people at Equality Delaware, and other advocates for equality in Delaware and around the country, have been among the most rewarding experiences of my legal career. I am very grateful to my colleagues at Richards, Layton & Finger for being supportive of our work in the Delaware community.”

Purpura, Goodman, and others at Equality Delaware drafted and advocated for Delaware’s Civil Union and Equality Act of 2011. A founding director of Equality Delaware and chair of the Equality Delaware Foundation, Purpura has often acted as pro bono counsel to protect the rights of those who are underserved or who face inequality under the law. His diverse commercial law practice focuses on complex transactions involving Delaware entities, as well as banking and trust matters.
